Renovation Series: Design
In this episode of the More For LES Renovation Series, we move from the apartment’s existing condition into the design process—and begin to see what the space can become.
Working with architect Gregory Colston, we walk through the process of measuring the apartment, developing schematic designs, and rethinking the original three-bedroom layout to create a more open, light-filled home.
The new design removes walls, relocates the kitchen, reconfigures bedrooms and bathrooms, and maximizes the apartment’s living space. The goal is to make the bedrooms comfortable and functional while devoting as much space as possible to the kitchen and living room—the places where everyday life happens together.
We also look at how getting an early start on design can help move a renovation forward, particularly when you already know the apartment and the architect you’ll be working with.
And while the design may be taking shape, there’s still plenty that has to happen before anyone can pick up a sledgehammer.
