A city slicker looks to find that secret to life: A one bedroom thing

Today, we’ll travel with city slicker Sam Masur to see the final property on our 1-bedroom search on the Lower East Side . And then, tomorrow, the Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow theme will have run its course.

I won’t offer any spoilers about which property Sam is going to choose .

I will, however, offer a spoiler from the book itself: Sam Masur eventually has his foot amputated , the result of ongoing trauma and the diminishing returns of years of therapy aimed at restoring it to working order. In the abstract, that may sound extreme , but in the context of the book it unfolds without melodrama and feels almost inevitable.

Nevertheless, I digress .

Let’s take a look at the last leg on our tour . (Is that pun in poor taste?)

Sam’s budget ranges between $600,000 and $900,000 , and he has great credit . He’s targeting a 30-year fixed mortgage with a 6.25% interest rate , putting 20% down. His building will have elevator access , per the above.

Commentary: This unit is nicely-priced at the lower end of the spectrum . My favorite detail, though, might be the listing video , where local man Jacob Goldman does his best cowboy impression . Why? Likely the barn doors , an efficient space-saving move that avoids doors swinging into rooms. Maybe Sam’s a barn door kind of guy, though he doesn’t strike me as much of a rancher .
