The Ridgewicks hit Manhattan, but what hits them?

Haunted Homequest

January 5, 2026

Haunted Homequest turns four days old today — woot woot — and alphabetical order lands us in Manhattan for the third stop on our 5 borough tour. (No bikes!)

We’re working with Norris and Myra Ridgewick, two lifelong Mainers residing in the sleepy (but nightmarish) town Castle Rock. They’ve decided that their one chance to survive is to leave for New York.

By the way, if you’re not a Stephen King reader, we’re also on our fourth consecutive day of, “Huh?” (Fear not: We’ll be out of Fictionland soon.)

Their budget? Between $950,000 and $1,000,000. Thus far, they’ve seen the Bronx and Brooklyn. Now, for Broadway.

Jump back to our preview edition here to see further criteria on the method and mortgage terms, or stay on the train as we roll into Grand Central.

Notes: This property has a tax abatement until 2031. If you read When the 421a dream meets 2025 reality, you’ll recall the benefits — and risks — of the 421a. Essentially, condo owners enjoy a low tax rate ($20/month) through 2031, after which that rate can rise (and dramatically, at that).

Notes: One of New York City’s more uniquely shaped apartments, this co-op has a narrow hallway connecting the bedroom and the living/dining area. This unit screams “single person” and “West Village” but not necessarily “couple in their 50s escaping a haunted town.”
