Cycles of holiday cheer, one year — and window display — at a time

It’s a festive time here on the Lower East Side, particularly with Thanksgiving behind us .

The Christmas window display is up at Frank’s Bike Shop, displacing bikes in favor of miniature scenes of children frolicking, riding carousels , ice skating , waving back to Santa , and other iconic, mechanized winter vignettes .

Each time we walk by, I think of years past and how my children react and respond to it. Sadly, with each successive year, they express less wonderment and more bewilderment , like:
— “Don’t they get dizzy always riding around the carousel?”
— “Why are there two Santas?”
— “Look! Those two kids fell down on the ice. They’re going to catch cold.”

They’re right — certainly about the latter. If they fell down on the ice display, they probably won’t get picked up and reset until Frank puts them away in January .

Children can be tough to impress.

This is why I primarily write for adults , hoping to impress you, dear reader — but also because children aren’t typically in the market for real estate .

They are keen observers and shapers of culture , which — if real estate is More For LES’ X axis — culture is the Y .

I digress.

Since launching in July , More For LES has covered an array of different topics, including how-to’s , watch-outs , opportunities to find great value , areas where units are overpriced , guidance on co-op applications , and more.

We’ve invented features like Neighbor Profile , where we introduce members of the LES community who work and/or live in 10002 .

We’ve shared news headlines and explored their impact and relevance to the LES .

We’ve also developed a video shorts series — more than 50 episodes (some yet to air!) — taking you “inside from outside” on what’s happening in the neighborhood .

We’ve got bigger plans for More For LES , and I plan to make big things happen .
